Car Shopping - Day 2 - 2004 Acura TL

Day 2 is equally fun as the choice has come down to WHICH TL to buy, and it's all a matter of price and value.

We ventured off to the centre of the universe - Toronto for the afternoon and evening in pursuit of the one.
Couple dealers later, no car is bought yet as all claimed prices are firm, priced to go, there were cases they would not take $23000 offer for a final price of $23486. Wow.. the economy is not that bad yet I suppose

Notes: be warned of the Admin Fee and Safety Fee, which is another way for dealers to profit. I have seen Safety Fee from $395, $495, $695 from various dealers, which is a complete ripoff

2005 Acura TL, Black on Tan, Navigation, 75000 km, $22000
2006 Acura TL, Silver on Black, Navigation, 80000 km, $22000

With no car and almost giving up for the day, we headed back to Mississauga to check out other TL's only to find none were left (along with 3 police cars and 1 ambulance on the parking lot at Canadian Fine Motors, interesting.... they weren't happy with the discounts?). For reasons beyond me we got convinced to go to the Scarborough location of Canadian Fine Motors claiming to have only 2 2004 TL's left (2 2005 were sold already), and 1 when we arrived - a Pearl White 2004 Acura TL with Navigation and Skirt package, and 18" tires (why why why...). It looks better in reality

2004 Acura TL, White on Tan, Navigation, 87000 km, $17900

Long story short, maybe too spontaneous, that was the one we bought after some hard negotiation (still, only in "hundreds" off), and a new set of tires

Let's hope our first purchase from a private dealer does not turn into a regrettable decision, as I have heard rumors about Canadian Fine Motors on RFD. It is ironic we started out with 2005 to 2006 TL, and ended up getting a 2004 instead.

As Murphy's Law will have it, we then found this 2004 Acura TL for $2000 cheaper (no skirt, 17" tires) after getting home, and there is no cooling off period for car purchases in Ontario.... so our car is worse than 1, better than most listed cars out there. Fingers crossed.... we won't regret it

  1. I am considering looking at a car at Canadian Fine Motors and have also seen the threads at RFD. How was your experience. Did you find out anything about the car after the purchase? Did the dealer provide any assistance if you had any after purchase problems. Please let me know. Cheers!

  2. Hi Watson
I can't find your email or how to contact you, but here is my update, 2 months later

Canadian Fine Motors is fine, relatively, as long as you stick to what you want.
I have read many negative reviews on RFD and not sure why, especially the HQ Scarborough comments

The owner (it's a family business, and I have dealt with all 3 brothers) were helpful, nice
We got what we want, they gave in a bit, we got new tires through them too (at wholesale price), so I don't mind recommending them (actually I can refer you and we can split)

Car so far has no issues, thank god. Other than 18" wheels are stiffer @@ especially on winter crappy roads

  3. Thanx for responding Jerry. I am going to be in Markham tomorrow and was thinking I might drop in on the Scarborough location. I have been looking at Audi A4's as a compromise for me and the kids (4.5yrs and 1.5yrs old) to still fit in the back.

Hopefully you get my e-mail from this post as I would be fine splitting a referral. Cheers!

  4. Strange, still can't see your email (all it shows is your Blogger profile which is inaccessible)
Watson: you can email me at blog AT jerryhung.com

By the way, my eyes were initially caught by a black 2006 A4 for $15xxx at Canadian Fine Motors Scarborough, it was scary how much cheaper it was than everybody else. But after test drove a 2007 A4 at an Audi dealer, decided I didn't like the Turbo sound, and switched to TL instead after test driving a 2004 TL at an Acura dealer (much smoother and cool gadgets inside).

  6. I paid a visit to CFM for an Acura on the lot that was thousands less than other dealerships. I took it to a Honda Specialist who confirmed that the vehicle had been in an accident with severe damage. When I asked the management about the history of the car, they flat out called me a liar and said that the Honda specialist didn't know what he was talking about...needless to say I would not recommend this business establishment...if you can call it that.

  7. Very nasty and rude manager. Stay away from them. None of them knows technically. They advertise car for less (with lots of problems). As a newbie I got Honda Odyssey from them, turnout to be a problem van. Went to manager, he told he will try to fix, if not, nothing he can do about it. With cherry on top, he told me that he has sold me second hand car, not brand new. And now it's not his problem! I couldn't believe it. Also ripped me off after forcing me to take financing from him as he would give me discount on it. Turnout I am paying more now to loan than discount he gave me. Big LIARs/Frausters...

  8. Got a car from them, it was in an accident, and they kept trying to compare pricing to other, clean cars online. advertised the price at around 13K online, the same car on the lot had a sticker of about 15K, and they were trying to convince that they are giving me a discount (online) price...shady business. After 2 visits, and 1.5 hours of negotiating the second visit, i got them to delete their $700 safety fee, and $400 admin fee. brought the price down about 1000 in total. Still the guy while filling out papers managed to "steal" couple bucks here and there by adding a little to each sum - after tax amount was not exactly x 13%(HST), gas fee, etc...i noticed it when signing and questioned him, he started explaining, and i was too tired to argue over $50 and went with it. Charged $25 for gas, car had barely enough to make it a block, when I told one of the brothers, they said *very rudely, that i didnt get charged anything for gas...since my dad had the bill of sale and he was not with me, i decide to let them choke on the gas fee as well...
Prior to purchase i was told that all scratches will be removed, only to find "touch up" work that barely removed anything. I would have done a better job than their "specialists"
    OVerall DO NOT RECOMMEND!!
Massoud was my salesperson, turned out to be a liar. Basi (or something) was one of the brothers i dealt with, rude and pushy guy.
Would never ever go back to them, and strongly advise anyone, even if you think their prices are low, not to deal with them. The prices are down only because most cars are damaged. My bill of sale actually states structural damage, which if I was paying more attention would make me leave the office immediately (they only revealed the bill of sale at the very end...) admittedly my stupid mistake and not being careful...
do yourself a favor, avoid Canadian Fine Motors. I was in the one in Scarborough. I just hope the car wont be a major problem...

  9. According to OMVIC (Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council) customers have right to rescind or cancel contract within 90 days if dealers don't make certain disclosures. See the list in this link:

  10. Very Poor After Service
I am very disappointed with my experience and would not refer this company. Purchased a BMW X6, the navigation system was not included as promised, the car was not cleaned as was indicated at the time of purchase. Scratches that were promised to be taken care of were not. When it was brought to the sales person attention, who is also one of the owners, he was too "busy" to discuss. Several phone calls and messages were left and none were responded to.

  11. I was thinking of buying from them but after reading all the bad comments I think I'll take my money elsewhere, thanks!!

  12. Hello and thanks to all of you for comments. I was thinking of going there but the guy did not sound very friendly over the phone but I was kind of saying to myself who cares I will just go and buy the car from them but after reading these reviews I am thinking not to go there. I just can't imagine how bad are some people they don't realize how hard it is to earn money and most of us buy used cars because we can't offord new ones and for their profit they can do anthing. I am sure these people have no inner peace and will be punished on day of judgement severally. Thanks

  14. Hi,I bought a 02 Altima 3.5 back in 2006 from the Scarboro location. It had just less than 100K at the time....Price was very reasonable and I even financed through them. The car now has 370K and I've had no problems. The only money I've put in was for regular maintainence. So one could say
my experience was a good one....I'm thinking about buying something from them again soon.....

  15. I wanted to buy a car there. I left $800.00 deposit for the car. Found out they were way over the price offered everywhere else. The guy who showed me the car did not even know the car features. I wanted to back out of the deal. They charged me for 2 new tires, storage and emission testing. All extra to original price. And they kept my deposit.
I got the same car 4 thousands cheaper from another dealer.
    STAY AWAY FROM THEM!

    1. Let me know which dealer you went to after. I was planning to visit them to purchase a Lexus ES 350 today, but after reading this all I'm not going.

      Thanks

    2. Yeah, i just bought a car from them to, make sure you dont sign anything before all the promises made by them are done, because if you sign the bill of sale then they will talk rudely and will not give you much importance. The safety fee of 625 is total ripoff, so be carefull the owners are the BROTHERS OF HELL, STAY AWAY...

  16. Absolutely brutal company, typical used car dealers. The worst part is that they promote themselves as a high end car dealership. Bought a Pathfinder from them and it has been an absolute nightmare for us. On top of the thousands in repairs the rad was broken which contaminated our transmission, subsequently destroyed the tranny. Countless problems to list. Avoid if you can.

  17. YES!!! Avoid if you can!!! They posted 2008 Sabaru for $11888 plus Tax, but with comments $45/week 5 year $0 down at 4.99 taxes included. I asked over the phone that if it was all (45/wk - 5 yr) I needed to pay (after approval at 4.99), HE could not answer this simple question. He kept saying I had to look at the car first... something hidden. $11888+tax = $13433 vs. financing $45/wk (tax inc. at 4.99%) x 52 x 5 = $11700.

  20. I was thinking of purchasing an X6 from Canadian Fine Motors but after reading all the negative reviews, I would rather pay more for a more honest and transparent dealer. Their prices are always so much cheaper than the next advertised dealer but this is how they lure and trap customers and then screw them over with all the hidden and dishonest moves. Thanks for all the reviews everyone, probably saved me the headache and shady deals of this dealership.
